    Hello dedicated nail technicians,

While our profession allows us to create stunning nail art and bring joy to clients, it's essential to prioritize our own health and wellbeing. Nail products contain various chemicals that, if not handled with care, can potentially have adverse effects on our health. To help you minimize these risks, here are some crucial steps to consider.

    1. Ensure Proper Ventilation

Maintaining good ventilation is crucial in reducing exposure to harmful fumes. Work in a well-ventilated area or invest in a quality ventilation system to remove chemical vapors from the air. Opening windows and using fans can also help improve airflow.

    2. Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Protecting yourself with proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is vital. Wear disposable gloves when handling nail products, especially during tasks that involve prolonged exposure to chemicals. Gloves act as a barrier, minimizing skin contact and absorption of potentially harmful substances.

    3. Practice Safe Handling and Storage

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for handling and storing nail products. Avoid skin contact and inhalation of fumes. Store products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and ensure they are properly sealed to prevent leaks or spills.

    4. Take Regular Breaks

Frequent exposure to nail products can have cumulative effects on your health. Take regular breaks during your workday to allow your body time to recover and reduce exposure. Use these breaks to step outside and breathe in fresh air or engage in relaxation exercises.

    5. Educate Yourself on Product Ingredients

Take the time to familiarize yourself with the ingredients in nail products you use. Research potential health risks associated with certain chemicals, such as formaldehyde, toluene, and dibutyl phthalate (DBP). This knowledge will empower you to make informed choices and seek out safer alternatives.

    6. Hydrate and Nourish Your Skin

Regularly moisturize and nourish your hands and cuticles. Exposure to nail products can cause dryness and irritation, so using a good quality hand cream and cuticle oil can help maintain the health of your skin.

    7. Seek Safer Alternatives

Explore nail products that are formulated with healthier ingredients, such as "5-Free" or "10-Free" formulations that are free from certain potentially harmful chemicals. Choose reputable brands that prioritize ingredient safety and transparency.

    8. Regular Health Checkups

Schedule regular health checkups with your healthcare provider to monitor any potential health concerns associated with your profession. Discuss your occupation and any symptoms you may be experiencing to ensure early detection and proper management if necessary.

Remember, your health is as important as the art you create. By implementing these practices, you can minimize the harmful effects of nail products on your health and enjoy a fulfilling and long-lasting career in the nail industry.

Take care of yourself, both inside and out!

    Yours in service,

    Hanna Putjato
